Weight and Healthy Aging
We typically work with the following types of patients:
- Overweight people, including children and adolescents, with metabolically-induced weight loss resistance (including diabetes and pre-diabetes or insulin resistance).
- People who have previously tried to lose weight but can’t shed the last few pounds because of an underlying, untreated cause
- People who have gained weight because of chronic illness, toxic overload, excess medication, or other inflammatory condition
- People with Hypothyroidism, PCOS, or other endocrine problems
- People who want a physician supervised natural program of weight reduction AND health
- Failed surgical weight loss and/or yo-yo dieters who finally want a permanent solution to health and a return to normal weight
- People who picture themselves healthier, more fit, and less dependent on others in the years ahead
Our approach involves uncovering underlying metabolic damage and imbalances in body chemistry through testing that is not generally available to you traditional doctor’s office.
How to turn your body from a waste dump into a fat burning machine?
You don’t need another fad diet!
And contrary to all the hype, you don’t need bariatric or lap band surgeries, or pharmaceutical drugs like Qnexa. The health risks are high as these only contribute to long term nutritional deficiencies, abnormal eating patterns, and psychological and hormonal destruction.
My concern is that too many people lack a realistic body image and get sucked into thinness as their health objective: “drop a dress size” “lose 30 lbs in 10 days” “avoid this one food”, etc. In reality, by trying to achieve rapid weight loss you are actually jeopardizing your health.
For instance, a new study out that has been regularly reported in the mainstream press has revealed that for patients who have undergone bariatric surgeries (gastric bypass and lap band) they are at greater risk for alcoholism, depression and suicidal tendencies. They also suffer from major nutritional deficiencies and never fully receive the right lifestyle tools to be healthy.
Likewise, the newly release drug Qxenia has such alarming side effects (diabetes, seizure, stroke, etc) it’s difficult to even comprehend why it was released.
So, what do we look for in our testing:
- Toxic build up (mercury, etc)
- Hidden parasite or pathogenic bacteria
- Inflammatory responses
- Undetected Candida or Celiac
- Hormone imbalance (exogenous intake or otherwise)
- Low functioning thyroid
- Uncontrolled blood sugar
- Insulin resistance
- Fatty liver
- Viral infections
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Food sensitivity
- History of taking medications and NSAIDs
- GI problems
- Adrenal fatigue and excess stress hormones
- And more
My philosophy is that by focusing on HEALTH, you will lose weight. And if you do this and you cannot lose weight, then you have to consider degrees of toxicity and an inflammatory burden that are at the root of your health problem.
Metabolic Testing, Brain Based Healing, and Nutrition Therapy
We run a series of baseline diagnostic tests to help safely determine what could be the source of those extra pounds:
- Comprehensive blood panel (a full workup including thyroid antibodies, magnesium, iron, ferritin, homocysteine, and both vit Ds)
- Comprehensive hormone panel (stress hormones plus a complete male/female profile)
- Comprehensive gut/ GI system ecology panel to rule out harmful parasites, pathogenic bacterias, and yeasts
- Organic acid panel to uncover how well your body is utilizing its resources (energy production/fatty acid metabolism)
Next we formulate a Physician Supervised Plan that includes products, treatments, healthy eating habits and one of our dietary protocols.
